Who are the top 5 design companies in the UK? (In no particular order)
I would say that this question will be answered in more of a personal manner than a professional one. This is because design is constantly evolving, which means there are more and more popular design companies out there. That is why I’m basing my decision on the impact that the companies have had with their designs and how recognisable their branding is.
1HQ is a Brand Agency based in Berkshire. They supply clients with ”entrepreneurial and innovative” designs. They have spent a long time building up a team of individual thinkers that will work as a team, while at the same time using individual ideas on opposing ends of the design spectrum; to come up with excellent designs.
1HQ have worked with many well known companies, such as:
Kingsmill, Tesco, Heinz and Coca-Cola.
Williams Murray Hamm is a design company based in Clerkenwell, London.They aspire to make brands prosper. They have worked with many popular brands and gained significant profit for them. They were number 1 for branding in the UK for 5 years running (2004-08).
Williams Murray Hamm have designed packaging for things such as McVities Jaffa Cakes, Sainsbury’s basics range, Horlicks and comic relief pasta sauce endorsed by Gordon Ramsay.
The Most successful designs that WMH performed was the Hovis re-branding. This is because Hovis was very traditional, but the re design was a complete success. People were open to the new designs, they are fresh and bold. The designs consist of the whole bread package being covered in images of sandwich fillings.
JKR have won three DBA Effectiveness Awards for their design and packaging. They are based in Camden, London; one of the most innovative, individual and creative areas in the UK. They have created designs for many popular companies such as:
Hovis, Birds Eye, Drench and Guinness.

Attic are a very popular design company with an amazing client list.
as well as being brand designers they have also won a gold in the MI6 Gaming Awards.
Attik have also released 6 books, that are essentially compendiums of design ideas.
Attik began in Huddersfield, but they are now based in London, they also have 4 other offices around the world.
Their impressive list of clients include companies such as
Addidas, Coke, Sony, Lexus and Ubisoft. probably, the most impressive client list in the country.
Pearlfisher, based in London focuses on keeping design fresh. They believe that design has a very successful future in view and they aim to keep that reputation strong through their simplistic, iconic designs.

Waitrose, Yeo Valley, Innocent, Dairy milk and Green & Blacks.
